Pampers Vs. Huggies - What Are The Major Differences?

There are many qualities similar in both Pampers and Huggies. But before further details, here are some differentiating points between the two.

  • Huggies give better performance overnight than Pampers.
  • Huggies offer more security with grip strips and blowout-catching pockets.
  • Huggies are without fragrance.
  • Both are good at absorbing liquid.
  • Both have similar prices.
  • Sizes are almost the same in both.
  • Pampers are more comfortable due to the bifurcated absorbent layer into channels.

Though Pampers and Huggies are equally good on absorption, which is better for your baby?

Note: We have compared and tested Pampers Swaddlers and Huggies Little Snugglers in this guide.

Pampers Vs. Huggies - What Are The Major Differences

Size

The size of Pampers Swaddlers is slightly bigger than Huggies Little Snugglers.

  • The size of Pampers Swaddlers diapers ranges from 10 lb to 41 lb for newborns to size 7.
  • The size of Huggies Little Snugglers ranges from 10 lb to 35 lb for newborns to size 6. But their Little Movers diapers have sizes up to 41 lb.
  • They both offer preemie sizes, but Pampers have comparably three different sizes.

The winner is Pampers due to the smallest preemies. However, it is better to invest in larger diapers to save costs.

Comfort

Both offer maximum comfort, but we have to choose only one winner.

  • Regarding softness, both are soft, but Huggies wins here. The elastics around the legs of these diapers are softer than Pampers.
  • In terms of bulkiness, Pampers Swaddlers win due to the premium feature of dividing absorbent filling, which is absent in Huggies.
  • Both diapers have enough space for the umbilical cord.

The bifurcated absorbent layer makes the Pampers a winner in comfort level.

Sense of Security

A waistband in a diaper provides flexibility in fitting that is absent in Pampers. However, Huggies include an elastic waistband. There is also a pocket in the back of the waistband to assist in catching blowouts. All these features give a more premium feel to the Huggies.

Tabs are almost similar in both diapers for comfort and are a bit stretchy. The next thing is the strength of the diaper if it stays in when the baby starts crawling. The grip strips keep the child secure when the diaper is fastened.

Huggies diapers are the winner due to the premium feature of having grip strips. The waistband and back pocket also make Huggies better than Pampers.

Best Fit

The experience of best fit differs in moms using Pampers and Huggies.

Even though Huggies diapers are known well for baby shape, the newborn diapers hang down between the legs. The gusset leg design still leaves enough gaps around the baby's legs.

Pampers are better than Huggies because the Preemie diaper wraps perfectly around the baby's bottom and stays firm around the waist. The leg gussets also seal well to reduce any risk of leakage.

But like Huggies, Pampers for newborns have unwanted bulk and gap between the legs.

Skin-Friendly Ingredients

The manufacturing and material used in diapers decide whether it is safe for the baby's skin. Pampers diapers are free from dioxins, disperse dyes, latex, alcohol, bisphenol, parabens, lead & mercury printed links, phenol, and PVC. The absence of these materials makes Pampers completely safe for the baby's skin.

However, the Pampers Swaddlers have pulp inside, absorbent filling, and fragrance. The lining has polypropylene, polyester, and polyethylene.

Huggies are also free from elemental chlorine, fragrance, parabens, and EU allergens. The Little Snugglers consist of wood pulp, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane elastics, printing ink, sodium polyacrylate, polyolefin elastic, and wetness indicator.

Though most ingredients are the same in both diapers, Huggies beats Pampers due to its fragrance-free and detailed list of ingredients information.

Price

Price

Pampers and Huggies do not have much difference in price as of May 2023; the cost of a size 2 diaper is $0.31.

The price can vary at different locations, online, and nearby stores. But the possibility is they both have the same price.

Pampers Vs. Huggies Absorbency Test

The best way to determine diaper quality is to find their absorbing capacity. For this purpose, we run some tests by pouring 350 ml of liquid on the diaper. This is the same amount a 9 months old baby urinates per hour.

Later on, we used paper towels to check wetness after 25 seconds, and then we left the diaper for 10 minutes to let it absorb liquid and dry.

Pampers

The results of Pampers Swaddlers were astonishing because they performed very well. After pouring the liquid, the beads appeared on the diaper, and all other areas felt dry except the beads. With 250 ml of liquid, the beads were reduced.

The beading issue does not possibly happen when a child is wearing a diaper and moving around. After the test, the Pampers diapers were left to dry but felt slightly damp.

Huggies

Undoubtedly, Huggies diapers had shown better results on the absorption test. These are the only diapers that dried out paper towels after 25 seconds of pouring liquid from 50 ml to 100 ml. Little dampness was felt on the skin at 150 ml.

After pouring 200 ml of liquid, the paper towels were wet. However, the overall dryness was better than Pampers.

So, both diapers have passed the absorbency test in a good way and are best known for maintaining absorption under higher volumes.

Pampers Vs. Huggies Overnight Test

The overnight test determines how much pee a diaper can hold for how long.

Pampers

The performance is Pampers to hold pee overnight is comparable to Huggies. Slight dampness might be left to wet clothes, but it doesn’t irritate the baby’s skin.

The urine smell was common in the morning even though the Pampers included fragrance. So, we prefer using Pampers during day time instead of using them overnight.

Huggies

The best thing about Huggies is they are great overnight diapers. There is a minimum chance of leakage, but dampness was felt in the morning, which wasn’t enough to wet clothes. Also, the dampness didn’t irritate the baby’s skin.

Huggies passed out overnight tests with better results than Pampers.
